DECISION MAKING


Decision making is another important and pervasive function of management. It is a problems solving process. Decision making completes or converts the planning in to reality in decision making we select based and most appropriate alternatives to solve some specific problems. It is selections process that began with planning and it provides the setting of goals and achievement of such goals.
According to George Terry, “Decision making can be define as the selection based on some criteria from two or more alternatives.”
According to Jems Stoner, “Decision making is the process of identifying and selecting a course of action to solve a specific problem.”
In conclusion, Decision making is a problem solving through choosing a particular alternative after considering possible alternatives. There are three fundamental elements of decision making which are the problems, the individual facing the problems and the context solving the problems.
NATURE AND CHARACTERISTICS OF DECISION MAKING
Decision making is the pervasive functions required essentiality for management. It consists following feature, nature or character:-
I) Intellectual or mental process
II) Continuous process
III) Selective process
Decision making is selecting most appropriate or best option from the available options. While selecting the best alternative a decisions maker should proved rationality or reasons selecting such alternative
IV) Goal Oriented
A decision is taken to achieve certain Goals or Objective of an organization department or individuals without goals we cannot make any types of decisions.
V) Positive and Negative decisions
The decision making can also be cracterized as positive and negative. Those decision that instructs to do something is positive decision and not to do something is known as negative decision. However both the decisions makers have positive and negative impacts.
VI) Freedom to Decision maker
A decision maker should be free to apply knowledge and skill and to put assumption while making decisions. Pressures can influence the quality of decision making.
VII) Human aspects
All types of decision are concern with the human beings. Some decisions are making on personal opinion or views of the mangers. The decisions should also be able to influence employees.
VIII) Dynamic or Dynamision  process
The decision making should always be adjusted or matched with the environment. Since the environment is a dynamic phenomenon, the decision making also regarded as a dynamic process.
