Line organization:


Line structure of org. is oldest and popular structure where the relationship between supervisors and subordinate is maintained directly. The managers or line authority are regarded as general authority/responsibilities holders. In line org. the line manager is found independent in decisions making there are two types of line organization

a)    Pure line organization
b)    Departmental organization
Line organization also known as army structure of organization. And e.g. of line structure can be presented as:
Advantages of line structure:
v  Simple and easy to understand
v  More flexible
v  Fined authority and responsibilities
v  Unified control and discipline
v  Better co-ordination
v  Low cost
v  Fast decision
v  More suitable for Governmental organization and small business organization
Disadvantages of line structure:
v  No speciation of job
v  More centralization
v  One way of communication
v  Ineffective in competitive business environment
v  Unsuitable for large co-operate organization
v  Over burden (load) or work
v  Favoritism and nepotism
