Types of Decisions

The decisions can be classified into different types based on their nature the decisions maker and scopes of decision  basically followings are the major types of decisions:

I) Individual and Group Decisions

Individual decision are decisions are taken by single persons or manger and decision maker takes solo responsibility on the impacts of decisions where as group decisions are taken after discussions among the group of people or managers and responsibilities of decision are share among them.

II) Personal and organizational decision

If the decision are taken by the individual applying their personal capacity and interest and self responsible on the impacts of decisions that such decisions are known as personal decisions, where as if the decision are made on the  basis of capacity and position in the organization, following the rules and regulation of organization and the responsibilities taken by the org. are known as organization decision.

III) Routine and Strategic Decision

Those decision which are made by middle and lower level management for day to day operation of the business and having repetitive nature, such decision can be grouped under decision. Whereas each decision it decision are taken by top level management to formulate new plans and policy purchases sell off assets change in management team etc are group under strategic decision

IV) Policy and operating decisions

Decisions relating to policy and strategic, programmed and procedures are policy decisions the decision concerning regular operation of business are known as operating decision.

V) Programmed and None program decisions

Those decision which are made according to return policy procedures, rules and regulations and having regular nature such are called programmed decisions on the other hand none programmed decisions are found in regular in nature influence by internal and external environment attracting attrition of top level management and  requiring skill, knowledge, judgmental power and critical thinking of top level management.

VI) Short term and long term decisions

If the impacts of decision are found for a short period they are short term decisions and vice-versa.
